Image - Picture Editing Tutorial

Why do we ask that you edit your images so they remain below 250KB in size? The answer is simple, the slower your page loads the less likely someone will stick around to see it. Have you ever gone to a site, clicked on a page and waited, and waited, and waited, then left? I know I have and I can think of countless others who have done the same exact thing. Why not edit those images if it makes your pages load faster? There is really no noticeable difference in quality between the original and the edited image.

There are many reasons as to why a lot of people do not edit their images. Maybe some people don't actually know how to edit an image and maybe others don't even want to bother with it. Look at it this way, if you've put all of this time and effort into getting your listing ready, why push away prospective customers by skipping a few simple steps. For those of you who do not know exactly where to begin when editing a photo, you've come to the right place because this page will give you a "Step-by-Step" on how to edit an image. We will walk you through the process which only takes a few minutes. We've outlined more than a few steps but in actuality, it's only just a few.

For those of you who have your own editing software, we would ask you to refer to your software's manual on how to resize and decrease resolution of an image.

Note: Always make sure that you have backup copies of your images.

We've chosen Photoscape as our software of choice for these main reasons:

  • The Software is really simple to use (User friendly)

  • The Software has a nice clean layout (Easy to navigate)

  • It's a powerful program and doesn't take up a lot of space

  • It's 100% Free! (None of this free until your trial runs out, nope, it's 100% Free)

First you'll need to download a copy of the Photoscape Software from photoscape.org.

After the software is installed, click on the Photoscape Icon and let's begin!

There is no noticeable difference in quality between the original and edited versions. The one minor noticeable difference is the image seems set back a little bit (zoomed out) but this happens when you resize the image. Did you notice how the Image Detail Size (File Size) went from 3.7MB down to 278.4KB? To give you an idea of what that means, it now takes 13 (and a half) edited images to equal that original image. Note: If you wanted to, you could set the pixel width to 1024px instead of 800px. The 800px is just a "safe" setting. We hope that this tutorial has helped you and has also taken some of the mystery out of image editing.
